SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS

Sampling and Analysis

When it comes to getting wastewater treatment certifications, quality-controlled sampling and laboratory analysis is paramount. A good R&D program pays close attention to the numbers as well.

We will work with you to develop a sampling plan that fits your needs and budget. Your
samples will be taken by qualified MASSTC staff and taken to our parent agency’s
state-certified Water Quality Laboratory for analysis. Field data are recorded with each
sample to give you a better picture of your system’s performance.

MASSTC is also home to a research laboratory pursuing several exciting projects. The
modular facility was originally constructed to support the Groundwater Separation
Study. Since opening in 2020, the MASSTC lab has been home to the EPA STAR
project
and the Leachpits project, both investigating viral surrogates as public health
indicators. Lab staff perform coliphage and bacterial analysis of wastewater samples
collected from systems right here at MASSTC, or from other systems such as municipal
treatment plants and Cape Cod Community College as a part of these research efforts.

The original MASSTC lab will soon be replaced by a brand new, state of the art laboratory
facility during phase 2 of our site expansion, funded by the MassTech Collaborative.
This will enable even more analytical capabilities and space to host clients and
researchers.

We are pursuing accreditation for the new facility to be able to offer the
most reliable and quality controlled data we can with quick turnaround times. The new
MASSTC lab will balance product testing and scientific research on decentralized
wastewater treatment.
